Overview
The mission of the Western Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism is to provide leadership to the Western Cape economy through the Department’s understanding of the economy, its ability to identify economic opportunities and potential, and its contribution to government economic priorities. The Department also aims to act as a catalyst for the transformation of the economy and respond to the challenges and opportunities of its economic citizens, in order to support the government’s goal of creation of opportunities for businesses and citizens to grow the economy and employment. Lastly, it aims to contribute to the provision of a predictable, competitive, equitable and responsible environment for investment, enterprise and trade.
The Department’s strategic objectives are to develop and implement the economic strategic plan and policies in support of achieving opportunities for jobs and growth; create an enabling environment (minimal hurdles, sustainable business growth, investment and job creation) through improvement in the regional business confidence index and growth in the employment rate; facilitate demand-led, private sector driven government support for growth industries and business by increasing the value of exports; and improve the competitiveness of the region through infrastructure-led economic growth.
