This position offers an opportunity for a qualified and registered ultra-sonographer to join the team at Dannhauser Community Health Centre, a facility operating under the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health. The role is central to delivering diagnostic imaging services in a community health setting, where the incumbent will be expected to provide high-quality ultrasound services that align with both the scope of practice and established clinical standards. Working within a multidisciplinary medical and allied team, the successful candidate will contribute to patient care, health promotion, and the overall efficiency of the radiography unit. The post is graded according to the Occupation Specific Dispensation (OSD) system, with progression based on years of relevant experience after registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).

Applicants must hold a Grade 12 or Senior Certificate, as well as a Degree or National Diploma in Ultrasound. Current registration with the HPCSA as a Sonographer is essential. The appointment level depends on experience: for Grade 1, no post-registration experience is required for South African qualified employees who have completed community service, while foreign qualified employees need one year of relevant experience. Grade 2 requires a minimum of ten years of appropriate experience after registration for RSA employees who performed community service, or eleven years for foreign qualified employees. Grade 3 requires twenty years for RSA employees with community service, or twenty-one years for foreign qualified employees. The ideal candidate will possess sound knowledge of obstetrics and gynaecology ultrasound, general ultrasound scans, and ultrasound procedures, alongside a working understanding of health and safety policies, regulations, and acts. Strong report writing, administrative, and quality assurance skills are also required, as are effective communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, teaching, and training abilities. Computer literacy and the capacity to work well within a team are essential.

The duties are broad and patient-centred. The ultra-sonographer will provide ultrasound services according to patient needs, promote good health practices, and ensure optimal care by executing procedures completely to prevent complications. Administrative responsibilities include general administrative duties, compiling reports and memos, and assisting with ultrasound patient bookings. The role also involves providing guidance and supervision to junior staff, participating in institutional radiography policy making and service delivery planning, and engaging in multidisciplinary team activities. The incumbent must promote Batho Pele Principles in all duties, give factual information to patients about ultrasound examinations, and participate in departmental quality assurance, quality improvement programmes, and National Core Standards. Professional equipment use and inspection to comply with safety standards, developing protocols for sonographic services, participating in ultrasound quality assurance programmes, and taking part in Continued Professional Development (CPD) are all integral to the position. Additional tasks may be delegated by radiography management.

This post includes benefits such as a 13th cheque, optional medical aid, and prescribed housing and rural allowances. Persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to African Male candidates in line with equity targets. Appointments are subject to security vetting, criminal and credit checks, citizenship verification, qualification verification through SAQA, and verification of previous experience and company records. Shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo pre-entry assessments, including a practical exercise and an integrity assessment. Applicants who do not receive notification within three months of the closing date should consider their applications unsuccessful.
