The Government Printing Works (GPW) invites qualifying graduates to apply for a 24-month Graduate Programme internship in the role of Technical Technology Support, specifically within the Technology Planning unit. Based in Pretoria, this structured internship is part of the GPW’s broader initiative for the 2027/2029 financial year, designed to bridge the gap between academic study and professional practice. The successful intern will be placed within a technology-focused environment where they will receive meaningful work exposure and training aligned to their engineering background. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to develop practical competencies in a government setting while contributing to the operational and planning functions of a key state printing institution.

Applicants must hold a National Diploma in Industrial Engineering or Chemical Engineering. This qualification is essential, as the internship is intended to complement the theoretical knowledge gained during study with hands-on experience in technology planning processes. Candidates must be unemployed South African citizens and must not have previously participated in any internship programme. Importantly, applicants are required to disclose any prior internship participation, as failure to do so will result in the immediate termination of the contract on the grounds of dishonesty or undue enrichment. Those with foreign qualifications must have their credentials evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) before applying.

The core duties of the intern involve active participation in workplace activities, projects, and capacity-building initiatives under the supervision of experienced professionals. The internship is structured to provide exposure to the practical realities of technology planning, including supporting the assessment, coordination, and implementation of technological solutions within the GPW. The intern will be expected to engage fully with the assigned tasks, collaborate with team members, and demonstrate a willingness to learn and contribute. This is not a passive observation role; rather, the intern is expected to take ownership of delegated responsibilities and apply their engineering knowledge to real-world challenges. The programme aims to produce well-rounded graduates who are ready for the demands of the labour market.

Shortlisted candidates must be available for interviews at a date and time determined by the GPW. As part of the selection process, personnel suitability checks will be conducted, and successful candidates will be required to enter into an employment contract and performance agreement. By applying, candidates consent to the collection, processing, and storage of their personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), with the understanding that this information will only be used for recruitment purposes. The GPW reserves the right to fill or not fill the advertised post. Applicants who do not receive a response within three months of the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful. This internship offers a valuable chance to gain government-sector experience while earning a monthly stipend, making it a compelling entry point for aspiring engineering professionals.
