This vacancy is for a Technical Technology Support internship specialising in Quality, Health and Safety, offered by the Government Printing Works (GPW) as part of its structured Graduate Programme for the 2027/2029 financial year. Based at GPW’s Pretoria location, the role is a 24-month internship designed to provide unemployed South African graduates with meaningful workplace exposure and practical experience. The programme is aimed at bridging the gap between academic study and the professional environment, giving interns the chance to apply their knowledge in a real government production and printing context. As an intern in this placement area, you would be working within a team of experienced professionals, contributing to quality assurance, health and safety compliance, and operational support activities that underpin the organisation’s printing and related processes.

To be considered, applicants must hold a National Diploma in Quality Management, Operations Management, Engineering, or Printing. This qualification ensures that candidates have the foundational technical knowledge needed to support the quality, health, and safety functions within GPW. In addition to the educational requirement, applicants must be unemployed, be South African citizens, and should not have previously participated in any internship programme. It is important to disclose any prior internship participation, as failure to do so will lead to immediate termination of the contract on grounds of dishonesty. Candidates with foreign qualifications must have their qualifications evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). Shortlisted applicants will be required to produce certified copies of their qualifications and related documents at the time of the interview.

The core duties of the internship involve active participation in workplace activities, projects, and capacity-building initiatives under the supervision of seasoned professionals. Interns will receive structured work exposure and training tailored to their field of study, aligned to the placement area. This may include assisting with quality control inspections, supporting health and safety audits, documenting compliance processes, conducting operational research, and helping to implement quality management systems. The goal is to develop well-rounded graduates who can contribute meaningfully to the public service and improve their employability in the broader labour market.

Other notable information includes the requirement to submit applications using the new Z83 form, which must be fully completed, initiated, and signed for each post. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted, and personnel suitability checks will be administered as part of the selection process. Successful candidates will be required to enter into an employment contract and performance agreement. By applying, candidates consent to the collection and processing of their personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Correspondence is limited to shortlisted candidates, and if no response is received within three months of the closing date, applicants should consider their application unsuccessful. The Government Printing Works reserves the right to fill or not fill this post as per operational requirements.
