Requirements
National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Mechanical Engineering/ElectricalEngineering or an equivalent relevant technical qualification.Trade Test Certificate as a Fitter, Millwright or Mechanical Artisan will bean added advantage.A minimum of three (3) years’ relevant experience in the maintenance andrepair of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure, pumps andmotors.Valid Code B driver’s licence. A Code C1 driver’s licence will be an addedadvantage.Computer literacy (MS Office).Good communication, planning, supervisory and problem-solving skills.Knowledge of the Local Government environment and applicableoccupational health and safety legislation.Ability to work after hours and during emergencies when required.
Duties
The successful candidate will be responsible for, amongst others:Plan, coordinate and supervise the maintenance, servicing and repair ofmunicipal water and sewer pump stations.Inspect, troubleshoot, install and repair electric motors, pumps, valves andassociated mechanical equipment.Coordinate preventative and corrective maintenance programmes toensure uninterrupted service delivery.Supervise employees, contractors and service providers assigned tomechanical maintenance and infrastructure projects.Coordinate mechanical infrastructure projects from planning throughimplementation and completion.Monitor project progress, quality standards, budgets and compliance withspecifications.Prepare technical reports, maintenance schedules, job cards and projectprogress reports.Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act,municipal policies and engineering standards.Monitor stock levels of mechanical spares, tools and equipment andrecommend procurement where necessary.Investigate equipment failures and recommend appropriate correctiveactions.Participate in standby duties and respond to emergency breakdownsaffecting water and sanitation services.Provide technical advice and support to management regardingmechanical infrastructure and maintenance requirements.Ensure efficient utilisation of municipal resources and promote cost-effective maintenance practices.CompetenciesThe successful candidate should demonstrate:Technical knowledge of pumps, motors, mechanical equipment andmunicipal infrastructure.Leadership and supervisory skills.Project coordination and contract management skills.Planning and organisational ability.Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.Communication and report writing skills.Decision-making ability.Customer service orientation.Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
