The Western Cape Mobility Department, operating under the Western Cape Government, is seeking a Supply Chain Management Clerk: Financial Support to provide essential clerical and administrative services within its financial support unit. This entry-level role is central to the smooth functioning of the department’s supply chain operations, ensuring that asset management, procurement, logistics and record keeping are handled accurately and in line with public service regulations. The position is advertised at salary level 05 and forms part of the department’s broader commitment to efficient, transparent and accountable financial administration.
Applicants must hold a Grade 12 Senior Certificate or an equivalent qualification. While no prior work experience is specified, the role demands a solid foundational understanding of supply chain management duties and practices, including the ability to capture data, operate a computer and compile statistics. A working knowledge of the legislative framework governing the Public Service is essential, as is insight into public service financial legislation, processes and procedures, National Treasury Regulations and Provincial Treasury Instructions. Candidates should also be familiar with the work procedures relevant to the environment. In addition to these technical competencies, the successful candidate will need strong computer skills, planning and organising abilities, effective verbal and written communication, good interpersonal relations, flexibility, teamwork, customer care awareness, reporting skills, problem-solving and creative thinking, sound decision-making, and the capacity to perform under pressure. A willingness to work irregular hours and meet tight deadlines is also required.
The main duties of the post are varied and support the full supply chain cycle. The clerk will render asset management clerical support, which involves maintaining asset registers and supporting the tracking and safekeeping of departmental equipment. Demand and acquisition clerical support will include assisting with procurement processes, capturing requisitions and supporting the acquisition of goods and services in line with regulations. Logistical support services form another key responsibility, covering the coordination of stores, distribution and related functions. Record keeping support services round out the role, requiring accurate filing, data management and the maintenance of audit-ready documentation. Together, these duties ensure that the department’s supply chain activities are compliant, efficient and well documented.
Shortlisted candidates should note that the selection process includes interviews scheduled by the department, as well as the submission of duly completed and signed vetting and supporting documentation within a specified timeframe. Failure to provide these documents timeously, without reasonable justification, may result in disqualification. All shortlisted candidates will also undergo two pre-entry assessments: a practical exercise testing technical and generic suitability for the post, and an integrity assessment measuring ethical conduct. The selection process will be guided by the employment equity targets of the employing department. By applying, candidates consent to the Western Cape Government contacting previous employers or managers for reference checks, which will include enquiries into disciplinary records and reasons for leaving. Applications are accepted online only, and technical support is available during business hours for those experiencing difficulties with the online system. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented, organised individual seeking to build a career in public sector supply chain management.
