This position offers an entry-level opportunity within the Office of the Chief Justice, based at its National Office in Midrand, and forms part of the broader supply chain management function that supports the judiciary’s administrative operations. As a Supply Chain Clerk, the successful candidate will work within a team that ensures procurement processes are conducted in line with legislative frameworks and departmental needs. The role is graded at a junior administrative level and is ideal for a candidate with a Grade 12 certificate who is eager to build a career in public sector supply chain management, as no prior work experience is required. However, a valid driver’s licence will be considered an added advantage, and the appointee will be expected to sign a performance agreement upon appointment.
The core responsibilities of this role revolve around providing administrative and procedural support across the entire procurement cycle. The clerk will assist in developing sourcing strategies and collating information for Demand Management Plans and Procurement Plans, which are essential for forecasting and budgeting. A significant part of the work involves supporting the drafting of specifications and terms of reference for goods and services, as well as compiling tenders, quotations, and specification documents. The role also requires active participation in conducting and closing bids, which includes managing the bid process from advertisement to final submission. Additionally, the clerk will provide secretariat support to the Bid Specification and Bid Evaluation Committees, ensuring that meetings are properly documented and that all relevant documentation is prepared and distributed to committee members. Maintaining an efficient filing system for awarded bids and keeping the bid register up to date are critical administrative duties, as is supporting the broader supply chain reporting on procurement activities to management and oversight bodies.
To succeed in this position, applicants must possess a solid understanding of key public sector regulatory frameworks, including the Public Finance Management Act, Treasury Regulations, and Supply Chain Management Regulations, as well as knowledge of BBB-EE regulations and public service policy frameworks. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, along with computer literacy in MS Office applications. The ability to plan and organise work effectively, maintain attention to detail, and work under pressure while meeting strict deadlines is crucial. The role demands a candidate who can work independently as well as part of a team, with good interpersonal relations and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Given the nature of procurement work, confidentiality and integrity are also important.
The organisation will give preference to candidates in line with its Employment Equity goals, and this vacancy is advertised as part of the Public Service Vacancy Circular. This is a permanent position within a stable public entity, offering the chance to gain hands-on experience in a regulated environment. The successful candidate will be expected to uphold the highest standards of governance and transparency in all procurement activities. This role is well suited to a motivated individual who is keen to develop a career in supply chain management within the public sector, with opportunities for growth and further learning.
