The Government Printing Works (GPW) in Pretoria invites qualifying graduates to apply for two Strategic Sourcing internship posts within its Graduate Programme for the 2027/2029 financial year. This is a structured 24-month internship designed to provide meaningful workplace exposure and practical experience to graduates who are entering the public service environment. The role sits within the strategic sourcing function of the GPW, which is responsible for the planning and execution of procurement and supply chain activities that support the organisation’s core printing and document security operations. As an intern, you will be placed in a work area aligned to your field of study and will be expected to actively engage in daily workplace activities, contribute to projects, and take part in capacity-building initiatives under the guidance of experienced professionals. The programme is intended to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application, giving interns the opportunity to develop professional competencies in supply chain management, logistics, and strategic sourcing within a government context.

To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must hold a degree in Supply Chain Management or Logistics Management. Candidates must be South African citizens and must be unemployed at the time of application. Importantly, applicants must not have previously participated in any internship programme; failure to disclose prior participation will result in the immediate termination of the internship contract on grounds of dishonesty and undue enrichment. Applicants who possess foreign qualifications are responsible for having these qualifications evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) before applying. The main duties of the interns include receiving structured on-the-job training, participating in workplace projects and activities, and supporting the strategic sourcing team with tasks relevant to procurement and logistics. Interns are expected to be proactive, willing to learn, and able to work under supervision while contributing to the overall objectives of the unit.

The application process requires strict adherence to the instructions in the advertisement. Applications must be submitted on the new Z83 application form, which is obtainable from any Public Service Department or online, and each post must have its own fully completed, initiated, and signed application form. The correct job title and the relevant reference number must be indicated in the subject line of the email, and applicants must use the correct email address associated with the post. Documents such as pictures, snapshots, zipped files, IMG, and JPEG formats will not be accepted. Only shortlisted candidates will be asked to submit certified copies of qualifications and other related documents before the interview date. The selection process may include personnel suitability checks, and successful candidates will be required to enter into an employment contract and performance agreement. By applying, candidates consent to the collection, processing, and storage of personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Late applications, applications using the old Z83 form, or those that do not comply with the requirements will not be considered. Correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates only, and if no response is received within three months of the closing date, applicants should consider their application unsuccessful. The GPW reserves the right to fill or not fill the advertised posts.
