Staff Nurse Grade 1 to 3 (Theatre & CSSD) (Permanent position)

This permanent Staff Nurse position, graded from Grade 1 through Grade 3, is based at Stellenbosch Hospital within the Cape Winelands Health District of the Western Cape Department of Health. The successful candidate will work specifically in the Theatre and Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD), playing a key role in perioperative nursing care and the sterilisation and preparation of surgical instruments and equipment. The post is advertised as part of the department's broader Ecosystem Service platform, which means that although the base location is Stellenbosch Hospital, the appointed nurse may be expected to render clinical services across other institutions within the ecosystem as needed to sustain health service delivery.

To be considered, applicants must hold a qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Staff Nurse, and must be registered with the SANC in that category. Importantly, candidates who do not yet possess the stipulated registration requirements may still apply, provided they submit proof of application for registration with the relevant council and proof of payment of the prescribed registration fees on or before the day of the interview. This concession applies only to health professionals applying for the first time for registration in a specific category, including those who need to apply for a change in registration status. Experience requirements vary by grade: Grade 1 requires no prior experience, Grade 2 requires a minimum of ten years of appropriate or recognisable nursing experience after registration as a Staff Nurse, and Grade 3 requires a minimum of twenty years of such experience.

The core duties include developing and implementing basic patient care plans, providing basic clinical nursing care, ensuring the effective utilisation of physical and financial resources, and maintaining professional growth, ethical standards, and self-development. The nurse will need good communication and interpersonal relationships, basic computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, and knowledge of relevant legislation and policies of the Western Cape Department of Health. The inherent requirements of the job include a willingness to work shifts, including night and day shifts, weekends, public holidays, and overtime when necessary, as well as a willingness to work in all wards.

This is an OSD-graded position, offering an annual salary plus service benefits such as a 13th cheque, employer contributions to a pension fund, and housing and medical aid allowances.
