This permanent Staff Nurse position, graded at levels 1 through 3, is based at Stanford Community Health Centre in the Overstrand Sub-district of the Overberg District. The successful candidate will join the Western Cape Department of Health and work within a broader Ecosystem Service platform, meaning that although the post is attached to a specific facility, the incumbent may be required to render clinical services at other institutions within the ecosystem as needed to sustain health service delivery. The role also involves a willingness to work on the mobile health clinic bus, bringing basic nursing care to communities that may not easily access fixed facilities. Overtime may be required from time to time, and a valid driver’s licence is an inherent requirement of the job.

Applicants must hold a qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Staff Nurse, and must be registered with SANC. For appointment at Grade 1, no prior nursing experience is required. Grade 2 requires a minimum of ten years of appropriate and recognisable nursing experience after registration as a Staff Nurse, while Grade 3 requires a minimum of twenty years of such experience. Candidates who do not yet have the stipulated registration may still apply, provided they submit proof of application for registration to the relevant council and proof of payment of the prescribed registration fees on or before the day of the interview. This concession applies only to health professionals applying for the first time for registration in a specific category, including those who need to change their registration status.

The core duties include developing and implementing basic patient care plans, providing basic clinical nursing care, ensuring the effective utilisation of physical and financial resources, and maintaining professional growth, ethical standards and self-development. The ideal candidate should have basic computer literacy in MS Office, the ability to function independently as well as within a multi-disciplinary team, and good communication skills. These competencies are essential for delivering quality patient care in both fixed facility and mobile clinic settings.

No payment of any kind is required when applying for this post. Candidates may also be subjected to a practical assessment as part of the selection process. The post is permanent and offers a competitive annual salary commensurate with the appointed grade, along with the standard public service benefits package. This is an excellent opportunity for both newly qualified staff nurses and experienced professionals seeking a stable career in community health nursing within the Overberg region. The emphasis on cross-facility deployment and mobile services makes this a dynamic role for nurses who enjoy variety and community outreach.
