This permanent coordination post, located in the Pretoria Regional Office, operates within the Provincial Secretariat of the Department of Community Safety and focuses on strengthening victim empowerment services in line with the national response to gender-based violence and femicide. The Senior VEC Coordinator is essentially the operational driver behind the Green Door and Floor Management programme, ensuring that victims of crime and GBVF receive effective, coordinated support at service sites and policing precincts. Working within a broader crime prevention and community safety strategy, the incumbent will liaise closely with internal stakeholders, SAPS personnel, Community Police Forums, and civil society partners to build a functional referral matrix and uphold service delivery standards.
To be considered, applicants need a Grade 12 certificate and a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Social Sciences or Community Development, recognised by SAQA, alongside two to three years of hands-on experience in the victim empowerment field. A valid driver’s licence and a clean criminal record with no pending cases are mandatory. The ideal candidate should understand public service legislative frameworks, the National Strategic Plan on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide, and the department’s crime prevention strategies. Strong analytical and administrative skills are essential, including statistical analysis, report writing, conflict management, presentation abilities, and the capacity to work under pressure. Personal attributes such as teamwork, flexibility, problem-solving, responsiveness, interpersonal sensitivity, customer focus, and credibility are also required.
The core duties are operational and multi-faceted. The coordinator will implement the Green Door and Floor Management programme in line with the Annual Performance Plan and Annual Operational Plan, manage the recruitment, screening, and contracting of Floor Managers and Green Door Ambassadors, and assess the functionality of service sites. Responsibilities also include conducting announced and unannounced weekly-to-monthly site visits, providing day-to-day support and debriefing sessions, logging cases in occurrence books and referral registers, and maintaining an up-to-date database of ambassadors, managers, and GBVF victims supported. The role involves organising and facilitating training and quarterly workshops, participating in the annual upskilling programme for Law Enforcement Agencies on GBV, and attending VEP regional forums to showcase services. Administrative duties include compiling reports, quality-checking evidence and reporting templates, verifying scanned occurrence book copies, and ensuring compliance with service delivery improvement plans.
This is an OSD-graded post with service benefits attached. The department encourages applications from youth, people with disabilities, and designated groups including Coloured and Indian candidates, reflecting its equity commitments. Successful candidates will be subjected to pre-entry assessments, including a practical exercise and an integrity test, as well as personnel suitability checks such as vetting, qualification verification, and criminal and credit record verification. Candidates must also note that appointment may be made according to corridor coordination needs, and the department reserves the right not to fill the post. Applications must follow the prescribed submission method, and only shortlisted applicants will be contacted within a limited period after the closing date.
