The National Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment is advertising a vacancy for a Senior Provisioning Administration Officer specialising in Assets and Inventory Management, stationed in Cape Town. This is a supervisory and administrative post that plays a vital role in the department’s supply chain management environment. The successful candidate will take charge of the full asset lifecycle, from the point of procurement through to disposal, ensuring that all physical assets are accurately recorded, maintained, and eventually removed in line with government prescripts. A central aspect of the role involves overseeing the asset verification process Athens. This includes making certain that correct asset descriptions are loaded onto the Logistical Management System, or LOGIS, and that proper item descriptions are captured whenever new assets are procured. The post also carries responsibility for verifying and reporting on inventory store items, compiling asset reports for inclusion in financial statements, and providing monthly reconciliation inputs between LOGIS and the BAS financial system.

Beyond verification and reconciliation, the incumbent will manage the departmental asset register itself, ensuring records are continuously updated and that the RR032 asset report is maintained at every location. The role also encompasses the management of the asset disposal process, making sure disposals follow the correct procedures and that assets flagged for disposal are properly verified. Managing the broader asset lifecycle, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, attending to asset-related queries, and coordinating reports on the loss or damage of assets all feature among the core duties. In addition, the position involves providing direct supervision to the asset unit, which calls for strong leadership, planning, and organisational skills.

Applicants are expected to hold a National Diploma at NQF level 6 in Supply Chain Management or a relevant qualification recognised by SAQA, together with at least two years of applicable experience. A working knowledge of supply chain processes, the LOGIS system, and the legislative framework governing public finance is essential, including the PFMA, National Treasury Regulations, PPPFA, and the Public Service Act and Regulations. The ideal candidate must also demonstrate sound communication and report-writing abilities, computer literacy, and the capacity to gather, analyse, and interpret information. Given the demands of the environment, the department requires someone who can work voluntarily for long hours, function under extreme pressure, resolve conflicts with difficult individuals, and operate both independently and within a team. A valid driver’s licence and a willingness to travel are compulsory.

The department is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer. Preference may be given to appointable applicants from underrepresented designated groups in line with its equity plan, and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply. As with all public service posts, a signed Z83 form and a detailed CV are required, and shortlisted candidates will need to submit certified copies of qualifications, identity documents, and licences before the interview. Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA at the applicant’s own initiative. All shortlisted candidates will undergo security vetting and screening, covering criminal records, citizenship, credit worthiness, references, and qualification verification. Correspondence is limited to successful candidates, and anyone not contacted within three months of the closing date should regard their application as unsuccessful. By applying, candidates consent to the processing of their personal information in accordance with POPIA for recruitment purposes.
