This position offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to an inclusive public service environment as a Senior Personnel Practitioner specialising in Disability Management, based at the Head Office in Cape Town. The role sits within the People Management Practices and Planning Directorate, placing it at the heart of the department’s efforts to embed disability mainstreaming across all employment practices and workplace programmes. The incumbent will be expected to act as a coordinator and advisor, ensuring that the department’s Disability Strategy is not merely a policy document but a lived reality through concrete strategies, projects and supported employees.

To be considered, candidates must hold an appropriate National Diploma at NQF6 level in Human Resources or Social Science, along with appropriate relevant experience. The role demands a versatile skill set including computer literacy in Microsoft Office applications, strong facilitation and policy-writing abilities, and solid research, conceptualisation, analytical, and statistical analysis skills. Written and verbal communication is essential, as is the ability to interpret and apply legislation. A sound understanding of the Disability Framework for the Public Service is critical, and the successful candidate will need to demonstrate creativity, self-motivation, assertiveness, and strong organisational and prioritisation skills. These competencies will be applied across a wide range of duties that shape both the employee experience and the physical and information accessibility of the department.

The core responsibilities revolve around coordinating and implementing strategies, programmes, and projects aligned with the departmental Disability Strategy. This includes handling the reasonable accommodation process for employees with disabilities, from assessing needs to procuring assistive devices in accordance with the departmental framework. The role also provides advice to districts and institutions on disclosure matters, ensuring that employees feel supported and informed under the departmental disclosure policy. The incumbent will be responsible for implementing disability awareness programmes, coordinating physical and information accessibility measures in the workplace, and driving a Disability Sensitisation and Awareness Programme across the department. Additionally, the role involves monitoring and evaluating the department’s employment practices to assess how effectively disability issues are being mainstreamed, using data and analysis to identify gaps and drive improvement.

This is an OSD-graded post within the public service, and the salary level reflects the seniority of the role. Interested applicants should note that this is a full-time position based in Cape Town, and that no payment of any kind is required when applying. The department is likely to place a strong emphasis on equity and transformation in its recruitment process, consistent with public service employment practices, and candidates who meet the requirements and share a commitment to building an accessible and inclusive workplace are encouraged to apply. The successful appointee will need to work collaboratively across directorates and with external stakeholders, all while maintaining a high standard of professionalism and confidentiality in handling sensitive employee information. This is a challenging but rewarding role for a human resources professional who is passionate about disability rights and wants to make a tangible difference in the public health sector.
