This senior buyer position sits within the Supply Chain (Business Services) unit of Airports Company South Africa, reporting directly to the Group Manager Procurement. The role is an operational and supervisory one, responsible for driving the end-to-end procurement process in line with approved plans, legislative requirements, and the company’s transformation agenda. As a senior member of the buying team, the incumbent will not only execute complex sourcing activities but also provide on-the-job guidance to more junior buyers, help coordinate functional projects, and contribute meaningfully to the broader procurement planning cycle. The role is central to ensuring that the organisation obtains value for money, manages supply chain risk effectively, and builds a diverse, empowered supplier base.

To be considered, candidates must hold a relevant Bachelor’s degree at NQF level 7, with a minimum of 360 credits (a three-year qualification), and this is strictly essential. In addition, registration with either the Chartered Institute of Purchase and Supply (CIPS) or SAPICS is required. Candidates must also bring at least five years of relevant operational experience in procurement or supply chain management. This combination of formal education, professional registration, and practical experience is necessary to handle the complexity of the role, which includes managing RFX processes, evaluating bids within delegated authority, and coordinating negotiations. Shortlisted applicants should note that they will need to provide proof of their qualifications, including NQF level and credits, and must be eligible to obtain Top Security Clearance within three months of appointment.

The duties of the role are wide-ranging. The senior buyer will ensure adherence to approved procurement plans, monitor and report on the execution of demand plans, and administer the entire RFX process from initiation to evaluation, always operating within delegated levels and the parameters of supplier contract terms. The role also involves organising and coordinating negotiations, implementing BBBEE strategies to meet transformation targets, and integrating small black businesses into the supplier base. Risk management is a key focus, with the post holder expected to identify, analyse, and mitigate supply chain management risks, as well as monitor, evaluate, and report on supplier performance. When issues arise, the senior buyer must implement remedial actions, build and maintain healthy internal and external relationships, and support a collaborative team environment. The position also requires the delivery of cost benefits in line with an approved savings methodology, active participation in procurement planning, and the coordination and leadership of functional projects. Finally, the incumbent will be responsible for compiling, submitting, and presenting various reports to stakeholders.

Candidates should possess strong communication and negotiation skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work as a team player. Problem-solving, analytical thinking, conflict management, and a customer service orientation are all essential competencies for success in this role. Positions will be filled in line with Airports Company South Africa’s values and its Employment Equity Policy and Plan, so candidates from designated groups are encouraged to apply. If you do not receive feedback within 30 days of submitting your application, please consider it unsuccessful.
