This position offers an opportunity for an experienced financial auditor to join the Performance and Financial Audit Directorate within a national government department, based in Pretoria, Gauteng. As a Senior Auditor specialising in financial audit, the successful candidate will play a central role in delivering the directorate’s annual audit plan, working across the full audit lifecycle from initial planning through to final closure. The role is structured around the standards and methodologies of the Institute of Internal Auditors, and the incumbent will be expected to apply risk-based internal audit approaches and use electronic audit software to compile and manage deliverables for each phase of assigned projects.

To be considered for this post, applicants must hold a Grade 12 Certificate and a National Diploma in Auditing or Accounting at NQF Level 6, together with at least two years of relevant experience as a financial auditor. While not mandatory, membership of the Institute of Internal Auditors is recommended and would strengthen an application. The role demands a solid working knowledge of the Standards of the Institute of Internal Auditors, risk-based internal audit methodologies, procedures, and relevant software. Candidates should also possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as interviewing, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Computer literacy is essential, along with business process analysis skills and the capacity to assess risk and control environments. A valid driver’s licence is required, as the role may involve travel or site visits as part of audit assignments.

The core duties of the Senior Auditor revolve around the planning, execution, reporting, and closure of annual audit plan projects. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that each project is delivered according to the timelines and deliverables set out in approved audit project planning memoranda. This includes compiling the planning phase deliverables in the electronic audit software, as well as the execution and reporting phase deliverables, all in line with the Chief Directorate’s quality standards, methodologies, policies, and procedures. The work is ongoing and continuous, requiring the auditor to maintain accurate records and provide weekly progress reports to the Assistant Director: Financial Audit. The role therefore requires a disciplined, methodical approach and the ability to manage multiple audit projects simultaneously while adhering to strict deadlines and professional standards.

This vacancy is advertised with an employment equity target, specifically favouring African males and persons with disabilities, in line with the department’s transformation commitments. The post is graded at a senior administrative level and offers a stable career path within the public service audit environment. Interested candidates should note that this is a full-time position based in Pretoria, and that the selection process will assess both technical audit competence and the behavioural attributes needed to work effectively within a government audit directorate. The role provides a meaningful opportunity to contribute to public sector accountability and financial governance, while also developing professional expertise in financial audit within a structured and supportive environment.
