This position offers an opportunity for an experienced administrative professional to take on a senior supervisory role within the patient administration function at Karl Bremer Hospital, operating under the Chief Directorate: Metro Health Services. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing patient administration in both the Admissions department and various clinical areas, ensuring that all administrative processes run smoothly, efficiently and in line with provincial and departmental prescripts. As a Senior Administrative Officer specialising in finance and patient administration, the role requires someone who can lead a team of administration clerks, coordinate daily workflows and maintain high standards of data accuracy across every patient visit.
Applicants must possess an appropriate National Diploma at NQF level 6 or an equivalent qualification, together with relevant supervisory experience gained specifically in patient administration within a hospital environment. The role calls for strong verbal and written communication skills, sound interpersonal abilities and effective negotiation skills, as the incumbent will need to liaise with a range of role-players in a multi-disciplinary team. Practical computer literacy is essential, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and e-mail, as well as a working knowledge of LOGIS capturing, the Clinicom system and Treasury Instructions. Familiarity with departmental finance instructions and the ability to manage financial resources effectively are also key competencies for this post.
The core duties involve supervising and managing staff and patient administration functions in admissions and clinical settings, managing leave and drafting weekly or monthly staff rosters so that all areas are adequately covered. The officer will manage all bookings for patient visits, ensuring that accurate and up-to-date information is captured for each visit in accordance with the Uniform Patient Fee Schedule and other applicable regulations. Regular folder audits must be conducted, and any internal control deficiencies should be addressed through quality improvement plans that enhance compliance. The post also requires proactive engagement with the multi-disciplinary team to improve the accuracy of patient administration data and overall service delivery.
This is a challenging administrative role that demands strong organisational leadership and attention to detail within a hospital environment. Shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo a written or practical assessment as well as an oral interview as part of the selection process. Importantly, no payment of any kind is required when applying for this post, and applicants are advised to be alert to any requests for money in connection with the application. This vacancy forms part of the broader provincial health service recruitment drive and offers a chance to contribute to efficient patient administration within a public healthcare setting.
