The Government Printing Works (GPW) is inviting qualifying graduates to apply for a 24-month internship position in Security Management, based in Pretoria. This opportunity forms part of the GPW Graduate Programme for the 2027/2029 financial year and is designed to give unemployed graduates meaningful workplace experience in their field of study. The successful candidate will be placed within the security management environment and will receive structured work exposure and training that aligns with the placement area. Under the guidance of experienced professionals, the intern will actively participate in workplace activities, projects, and capacity-building initiatives, gaining practical skills and insight into the operations of a public sector security function.
To be eligible, applicants must hold a National Diploma or Degree in Security Management. They must be South African citizens and currently unemployed. Importantly, applicants must not have previously participated in any internship programme; failure to disclose such participation will lead to immediate termination of the internship contract on grounds of dishonesty or undue enrichment. Candidates with foreign qualifications must have their qualifications evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) before applying.
The main duties of the intern will revolve around learning and contributing within the security management unit. This includes undertaking assigned tasks, supporting security-related projects, attending training sessions, and participating in broader organisational initiatives. The internship is structured to ensure that the graduate develops professionally and is exposed to the practical application of security management principles within a government entity.
Applicants must comply with several important application conditions. The application must be submitted using the new Z83 form, which is obtainable from any Public Service Department or online, and must be fully completed, initiated, and signed. The correct job title and the reference number for this post must be indicated in the subject line of the email. Applications submitted on the old Z83 form will not be considered, and faxed applications are not accepted. Each post requires its own separate application form. Documents such as pictures, snapshots, zipped files, IMG, and JPEG attachments will not be accepted. Only shortlisted candidates will be required to submit certified copies of their qualifications and related documents on or before the day of the interview. Late applications or those that do not comply with the instructions will be disqualified.
Correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates only. Shortlisted applicants must be available for interviews and will be subject to personnel suitability checks as part of the selection process. Successful candidates will be required to enter into an employment contract and performance agreement. By applying, candidates consent to the collection, processing, and storage of their personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). If applicants do not receive a response within three months of the closing date, they should consider their application unsuccessful. The Government Printing Works reserves the right to fill or not fill the advertised post. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates in security management to launch their careers within the public service.
