This position, advertised as SCM Clerk Production – Acquisition Management, is a clerical role within the Supply Chain Management Directorate at the Provincial Office of the North West Department of Social Development. The post forms part of the department’s demand and acquisition function, meaning the successful candidate will provide essential administrative and logistical support across the entire procurement lifecycle, from identifying needs and sourcing suppliers through to the awarding and conclusion of contracts. Working under the direction of senior supply chain officials, the clerk will help ensure that acquisitions are handled efficiently, transparently and in line with government procurement prescripts.

To be considered, applicants must hold a Grade 12 Certificate and have at least 0 to 1 year of relevant experience in a supply chain, procurement or clerical environment. This is an entry-level opportunity suitable for candidates who are beginning their careers in public sector procurement. The role requires a solid grounding in client orientation and customer focus, as well as effective communication, planning and organising abilities. Key competencies include honesty and integrity, flexibility, computer literacy, good verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work well within a team. These attributes are essential because the clerk will interact with internal staff, suppliers and contractors, and must handle procurement documentation with accuracy and confidentiality.

The main duties are varied but centre on demand and acquisition clerical support. The clerk will update and maintain a supplier and contractor database, register suppliers on Logis or a similar electronic system, and request and receive quotations from potential vendors. Other responsibilities include capturing specifications on the electronic purchasing system, placing orders, and issuing and receiving bid documents. The clerk will also provide secretariat or logistical support during bid consideration and contract conclusion processes, and compile draft documents as required. This means the role involves a mix of data capture, record-keeping, document control and administrative coordination, all of which contribute to a smooth and auditable procurement process.

The position is based at the Provincial Office and is an OSD-graded post with a fixed annual remuneration package. Enquiries may be directed to the designated official, but this summary serves as a general overview. It is important to note that this is a government position, and as such, applicants should be prepared to adhere to the Public Service Act and related regulations. The department is committed to employment equity and encourages suitably qualified candidates, particularly those from designated groups, to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to start promptly and may be required to undergo a security clearance or vetting process. This is a valuable opportunity for a motivated individual to build a career in supply chain management while contributing to the delivery of social development services in the province.
