    The BMA is established as an armed service in terms of Section 199(3) of the constitution, a third in the country in addition to the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and the South African Police Service (SAPS) through the Border Management Authority Act No 2 of 2020. The Border Management Authority invites suitable candidates to apply for the following vacant position.

    Requirements

    Minimum requirements Grade 12 (Matric) Undergraduate qualification at NQF 7 as recognised by SAQA in Industrial Engineering, Human Factors, Safety Management / and Ergonomics Management. 4 years' experience at supervisory in occupational health and safety and/or environmental management. Knowledge Border Management Authority Act,2020 In-depth knowledge of safety regulations Thorough knowledge of health and safety laws and guidelines Occupational Health & Safety Act Environmental regulations Ergonomics Management Professional registration or license requirements SAIOSHA; TECHSAIOSH or any other professional bodies Other requirements Flexibility in working hours will be required to meet demands of the role. May be required to work overtime.     Duties

    The successful candidate will render the following functions: SHE Create and implement workplace health and plans and procedures. Carrying out safety risks assessments prior to starting a new project/s. Evaluate health and safety practice and procedures for risk assessment and following legal guidelines. Assist with the Occupational Health and safety training (OHS). Inspect equipment for unsafe workplace conditions. Monitor employee conformity to safety laws and policies. Investigate accidents and incidents to find cause and take prevention measures for further incidents. Handle worker's compensation claims in the event of a workplace accident. Suggest solutions, improvements, and prevention steps for safety issues. Compile Safety files for head office and ports of entry. Conduct monthly OHS inspections and compile reports together with the appointed site OHS representatives. Stakeholder Management Support    Build and maintain relationships with all BMA business units for the purposes of expectations management and knowledge sharing. Represent and participate in the organisation’s committees and tasks teams when required. Convene and attend meetings and present findings and business cases to relevant stakeholders when required. Implement timeous communication on progress and challenges in achieving the tactical work plans to impact stakeholders. Attend industry related forums, conferences, and workshops to gain industry insight for the purpose of business improvement. Assist Facilities Management with tasks provided to the official.  Attend OHS Port and Regional Committes. Support the appointed service provider providing OHS and ergonomics at Ports of entry. Governance, Risk and Compliance  Ensure the development and implementation of the risk register. Analyse and evaluate the internal controls to determine their effectiveness in mitigating risks. Assist in the development of the risk register. Update risks register in partnership with relevant stakeholders. Ensure compliance with the relevant legislation and regulations. Conduct monthly OHS inspections and submit monthly and quarterly to the supervisors.
