The Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA) is offering a graduate internship opportunity for a Risk Management Intern at its Head Office in Centurion, Pretoria. This position forms part of the 2026 to 2028 Graduate Internship Programme, which is aimed at providing unemployed South African graduates with meaningful workplace experience within the public service. The intern will be placed within the Risk Management directorate, where they will support the unit in safeguarding the organisation against potential threats and ensuring that institutional objectives are met with minimal disruption. This is an entry-level, structured internship designed to develop the successful candidate’s practical skills in risk identification, assessment, mitigation, and reporting, while contributing to the broader mandate of MISA as a government agency that supports municipal infrastructure delivery.

To be considered for this internship, applicants must hold a National Diploma at NQF Level 6 or a Degree at NQF Level 7 in Risk Management. This is a strict academic requirement, and candidates must have completed their qualification before the start of the programme. Since this is a public service internship, it is a once-off opportunity per qualification, meaning that applicants who have previously participated in any internship programme will not be considered. Only unemployed graduates are eligible to apply. The role is based at MISA Head Office in Centurion, and the successful candidate will be expected to enter into an employment contract and a performance agreement within three months of appointment. In addition, the intern will be required to complete a financial interest declaration within one month of appointment and annually thereafter, in line with public service integrity requirements.

The main duties of the Risk Management Intern will involve assisting the Risk Management directorate with the implementation of risk management policies, frameworks, and procedures. This includes supporting the identification and assessment of risks across various business units, helping to maintain risk registers, and preparing reports for management and audit committees. The intern may also be involved in facilitating risk awareness sessions, conducting research on emerging risks, and assisting with the monitoring of risk mitigation action plans. Administrative support, such as documenting risk assessments and coordinating risk-related meetings, will also form part of the daily responsibilities. Through these tasks, the intern will gain exposure to the full risk management cycle within a public sector environment, as well as an understanding of how risk management supports governance and decision-making in a state entity.

Applicants should note that all shortlisted candidates will be subjected to personnel suitability checks, including criminal record verification, citizen verification, financial record checks, and qualification verification. Shortlisted candidates will also be required to submit certified copies of their qualifications and proof of permanent residence. Correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates only, and if no feedback is received within three months of the closing date, applicants should consider their application unsuccessful. Applications must be submitted using the prescribed Z83 application form, accompanied by a detailed curriculum vitae, and must quote the relevant reference number. The internship offers a monthly stipend, and the position is advertised through the Public Service Vacancy circular. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent Risk Management graduate to launch a career in the public sector while contributing to the effective governance of municipal infrastructure support.
