This vacancy is for a single Recruitment and Selection graduate intern position within the Government Printing Works (GPW) in Pretoria, offered as part of the department’s structured Graduate Programme for the 2027/2029 financial year. The role is a 24-month internship designed to provide meaningful workplace exposure to qualifying graduates, with the successful candidate placed within the Human Resources environment. As an intern in this area, the incumbent will be part of a team responsible for supporting recruitment and selection processes, although the broader placement is intended to develop practical competence in line with the intern’s academic background. The programme is explicitly aimed at giving graduates the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in a real public-sector setting, while contributing to the administrative and operational functions of the unit.
To be eligible, applicants must hold a National Diploma or Degree in Human Resource Management. They must be unemployed South African citizens who have not previously participated in an internship programme. This last point is critical, and candidates are required to disclose any prior participation, as failure to do so will result in immediate termination of the internship contract on grounds of dishonesty and undue enrichment. Successful interns will receive structured work exposure and training directly relevant to their field of study, in line with the placement area. They are expected to actively participate in workplace activities, projects, and capacity-building initiatives under the supervision of experienced professionals. This means the role involves hands-on administrative support, learning how recruitment processes are executed within a government department, and developing professional skills through daily tasks and formal learning opportunities.
The main duties revolve around active engagement with the work of the Recruitment and Selection section, including assisting with processes that contribute to the overall human resource function. While the specific daily tasks are guided by supervisors, the intern should expect to be involved in organising and coordinating recruitment-related activities, supporting selection procedures, handling documentation, and participating in initiatives that build capacity and improve workplace efficiency. The internship is thus both a learning opportunity and a working post, where the candidate is expected to show initiative, professionalism, and a willingness to grow under mentorship.
Candidates should note several important conditions. Applications must be submitted on the newly prescribed Z83 application form, fully completed, signed, and accompanied by the necessary documents as specified in the advertisement. The correct job title and reference number must be placed in the email subject line, and the correct email address for this post must be used. Zipped files, pictures, snapshots, IMG and JPEG documents will not be accepted. Only shortlisted candidates will be required to submit certified copies of qualifications and other supporting documents, and these must be produced on or before the interview date. Those with foreign qualifications must have them evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). The selection process will include personnel suitability checks, and shortlisted candidates must be available for interviews at a date and time determined by the GPW. Successful candidates will be required to enter into an employment contract and a performance agreement. By applying, candidates consent to the processing of their personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates, and if no response is received within three months of the closing date, applicants should consider their application unsuccessful. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for a recent HR graduate seeking structured workplace experience in a government environment.
