The Department of Employment and Labour is seeking a Records Administrator to join its Provincial Office in Limpopo, where the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the efficient management of official records within the broader operations of the department. This position is essential for ensuring that the department’s filing and documentation systems comply with national legislative frameworks and internal policies. Working within a structured administrative environment, the Records Administrator will contribute to the integrity, accessibility and proper disposal of records, thereby supporting transparency, accountability and service delivery in line with government standards.
Applicants must hold a Grade 12 Senior Certificate or an equivalent qualification. A solid understanding of the National Archives Act, Batho Pele Principles, records management practices, and departmental policies and procedures is required. In addition, candidates should demonstrate strong communication and listening skills, computer literacy, and the ability to plan and organise their work effectively. These competencies are vital for managing documentation flows, liaising with colleagues and ensuring that records are handled accurately and timeously.
The core duties of the role involve maintaining the filing system according to the directives of archives and records management prescripts. This includes sorting and preparing documents for the disposal process, ensuring that all actions are aligned with the relevant legal and regulatory requirements. The Records Administrator will also be expected to perform general administrative duties within the section as and when the need arises, which may include supporting other team members, handling correspondence and assisting with routine office tasks. The role therefore requires a proactive and detail-oriented individual who can work both independently and as part of a team, while adhering to strict procedures and confidentiality requirements.
This is an OSD-graded position based in Polokwane, and the department has indicated that employment equity targets will be applied, with priority given to specific designated groups including Coloured males and females, Indian females, and White males and females. Interested applicants should note that the closing date is clearly specified in the advertisement, and all applications must be submitted through the designated channels, either by post, hand delivery or email, for the attention of the Sub-directorate Human Resources Management. Enquiries may be directed to the named contact person. This vacancy offers an opportunity for a detail-conscious individual to contribute to the professional management of government records in a dynamic provincial office environment.
