This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the delivery of water and sanitation infrastructure across Gauteng, working within the Provincial Operations directorate of the Department of Water and Sanitation. Based in the Infrastructure Development and Maintenance unit, the Project Administrator will provide essential administrative and coordination support to ensure that water services infrastructure development grant programmes are implemented effectively. The role sits within a branch focused on Water and Sanitation Services Management, meaning the work directly supports the planning, monitoring, and reporting of projects that bring critical water services to communities. As a level 07 post, it is suited to candidates with a solid administrative background and a clear understanding of how public sector infrastructure projects are governed and financed.

To be considered, applicants need a relevant NQF level 6 qualification in Social Science, Public Management, Public Administration, or a related field. This should be combined with one to two years of experience working in the administration of water and sanitation infrastructure projects. Experience with infrastructure grant funding administration will be an added advantage, as will a certificate in Project Management. The role requires a working understanding of the legislative and policy frameworks that govern the sector, as well as knowledge of programme, project, and financial management. Candidates should also be familiar with policy development and implementation, and must demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills, report writing ability, presentation skills, accountability, and ethical conduct.

The main duties are varied and centre on supporting the full project cycle. This includes rendering administrative and coordination support for the implementation of water services infrastructure development grant programmes, coordinating project reporting, arranging site visits, and verifying the progress of water infrastructure development projects. Financial administration is also a key responsibility, involving monitoring expenditure and assisting with grant-related financial documentation. The post holder will monitor and evaluate project activities to ensure implementation aligns with approved plans, targets, and deliverables. Maintaining proper filing systems for all project-related documentation and correspondence with municipalities and implementing agents is essential for accurate record keeping and easy retrieval of information. In addition, the role involves compiling and maintaining a database of resource-poor farmers who are beneficiaries of rainwater harvesting programmes.

The Department of Water and Sanitation is an equal opportunity employer, and the filling of this vacancy will take into account the Employment Equity imperatives of the Constitution and the Employment Equity Act. Women and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply, and preference will be given to equity targets. Shortlisted candidates will be subject to suitability checks, including qualification verification through SAQA, reference checks, and criminal and credit checks. Foreign qualifications must be accompanied by a SAQA evaluation certificate when shortlisted, and foreign nationals or dual citizenship holders must provide a police clearance certificate from their country of origin. Candidates should note that only shortlisted applicants will be contacted, and if no feedback is received within three months of the advertisement, the application should be considered unsuccessful. The department reserves the right not to fill the position. This is an OSD-graded role, and all applications must be submitted through the department’s online recruitment system, with no late or faxed applications accepted.
