- To provide academic, strategic and operational leadership for the Division and to position it as a leading African and internationally connected centre for teaching, research, postgraduate training, policy engagement and socially responsive scholarship in health ethics, humanities and society. ·
- To develop a coherent divisional strategy that strengthens established work in health ethics and bioethics while building complementary programmes in health humanities, social medicine and related interdisciplinary fields. ·
- To play a leadership role in consolidating and strengthening the fields of health humanities and social medicine at Stellenbosch University, in partnership with the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

Requirements
A primary degree in a health sciences profession, active HPCSA registration, and a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in health ethics, bioethics, or philosophy. · Academic standing appropriate for appointment at associate professor or professor level. · An established record of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and evidence of educational leadership. · Demonstrated experience in curriculum design, review, implementation and quality assurance. · Successful supervision of postgraduate students, including master's and doctoral candidates. · A sustained record of high-quality, peer-reviewed scholarly publications and evidence of an active research programme. · Demonstrated track record of a Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on research grants, and the development of educational or policy initiatives. · Demonstrated academic leadership and experience in administration, people management, or programme leadership. A strong record of interdisciplinary collaboration and the capacity to provide balanced leadership across the Division¿s full mandate. · Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated commitment to collegiality, inclusion and academic integrity. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RecommendationExperience in leading an academic unit, programme or substantial interdisciplinary initiative. Experience of public, policy or community-engaged scholarship. Duties
Providing inclusive academic, strategic and operational leadership for the Division.Developing and implementing a clear academic and research strategy aligned with the priorities of the Department, Faculty and University. Leading and strengthening undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in health ethics, bioethics, health law, health humanities, social medicine and related fields. Ensuring the quality, relevance, coordination and continued development of the Division's teaching contributions across the health-professions curricula. Advancing curriculum innovation and transformation, including culturally responsive, person-centred and socially accountable approaches to health-professions education. Building a productive, interdisciplinary and internationally visible programme of research and scholarly output. Strengthening postgraduate supervision, research training and mentoring of early-career academics. Developing competitive research, educational and policy initiatives and contributing actively to securing external funding and strategic partnerships. Promoting collaboration across departments, faculties, health services, communities, professional bodies, and local and international institutions. Advancing public scholarship, community engagement and policy engagement relevant to health, healthcare, health ethics and society. Fostering an inclusive, collegial and intellectually vibrant environment in which diverse disciplinary perspectives can flourish. Managing the Division's staff, resources, performance and academic administration responsibly and in accordance with University policies.
