The South African Nursing Council, the statutory body responsible for setting and maintaining standards for nursing education, training and practice in the country, is seeking two qualified professionals to join its Education and Training division as Professional Officers specialising in Monitoring and Evaluation. These permanent positions, based in Pretoria, are central to the Council's regulatory mandate of ensuring that nursing education institutions meet the prescribed accreditation requirements and continue to deliver quality training that aligns with the Nursing Act and related regulatory frameworks. The successful incumbents will operate within a professional, autonomous environment that demands a thorough understanding of both nursing education and quality assurance processes.

Candidates must hold a Grade 12 certificate, a Master's degree in Nursing, and an additional qualification in Nursing Education. Registration with the South African Nursing Council as an Assessor and Moderator is mandatory, as is possession of a valid Annual Practicing Certificate and a valid driver's licence. Applicants need at least three years of experience in nursing practice and a further three years working as a Nurse Educator at a nursing college, university of technology, university, or private nursing education institution. A certificate in Monitoring and Evaluation, experience within a regulatory environment, and an additional qualification in Clinical Specialisation are all regarded as added advantages.

The role demands a strong conceptual grasp of the South African nursing education and training system, including regulatory frameworks, quality assurance, curriculum development, implementation and evaluation, and clinical learning through Work Integrated Learning. Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation best practices, financial policies and procedures, corporate governance, and relevant legislation such as the Nursing Act, SAQA, the NQF Act and the Higher Education Act is essential. The Council is looking for individuals who demonstrate sound job knowledge, technical skill, reliability, initiative, flexibility, teamwork, effective planning and execution, resource management, strong communication, and a customer-oriented approach.

Key responsibilities include contributing to the development of the Annual Operational Plan and sectional plans, developing standard operating procedures and policies, and creating implementation tools for monitoring and evaluation. The incumbents will analyse and evaluate institutional portfolios of evidence and annual self-assessment reports against the Council's prescribed accreditation requirements, criteria and standards to determine compliance and inform reaccreditation decisions. They will also conduct monitoring and evaluation site visits, analyse data, liaise with internal and external stakeholders, manage human, financial, physical and information resources, and perform ad hoc tasks as delegated by the line manager.

This role requires a willingness to travel and drive extensively, including beyond normal working hours, within the provisions of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act. Successful candidates must be prepared to undergo background checks covering employment verification, references, criminal record, citizenship, financial records, qualifications, driver's licence and professional registration. Foreign qualifications must be accompanied by a SAQA evaluation certificate, and the Council may request academic records to verify major courses. Successful appointees are required to belong to a medical aid scheme if they are not already covered under their spouse's scheme. Applications are accepted only through the Council's official online recruitment system, and shortlisted candidates must submit supporting documentation ahead of the interview. This externally advertised vacancy offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the regulation and quality assurance of nursing education in South Africa.
