The Limpopo Department of Health is recruiting specialised professional nurses for sessional appointments at public hospitals across the province. The primary post is Professional Nurse: Specialty (PN-B1) at Grade 1 or Grade 2, on a part-time basis where one session equals one hour and a nurse may work up to 20 sessions per week. In addition, the department is also accepting sessional applications from Professional Nurses with Midwifery at Grades 1 to 3. These appointments are part of a sessional professional nurses database, meaning candidates who qualify will be placed on a roster and called upon as the need arises at participating hospitals. The specialty posts are based at Pietersburg and Mankweng hospitals in Capricorn District, Letaba Hospital in Mopani, St Ritas and Philadelphia hospitals in Sekhukhune, Tshilidzini Hospital in Vhembe, and Mokopane Hospital in Waterberg. The specialty disciplines covered include operational theatre, critical care adult (ICU), child nursing (paediatrics), child critical care nursing, trauma, advanced midwifery and neonatal nursing science, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, renal, and paediatric/child nursing. The midwifery sessional posts, meanwhile, are available across a much broader set of facilities in Vhembe, Waterberg, Capricorn and Mopani districts, including hospitals such as Elim, Siloam, Malamulele, Ellisras, Warmbaths, Mokopane, Helene Franz, Seshego, Lebowakgomo, Nkhensani, Kgapane and Letaba.

To be eligible for the specialty posts, applicants must hold a minimum basic R425 qualification, namely a diploma or degree in nursing or an equivalent qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse. A post-basic nursing qualification in one of the listed specialty areas is also required, with a minimum duration of one year and accreditation by the SANC, except for neonatal ICU nursing.
