This sessional appointment opportunity with the Limpopo Department of Health seeks registered professional nurses for specialty and midwifery roles at public hospitals across the province. The posts are offered on a sessional basis, with a maximum of twenty sessions per week, where one session equals one hour. Positions are available in the Capricorn, Mopani, Sekhukhune, Vhembe, and Waterberg districts, at hospitals including Pietersburg, Mankweng, Letaba, St Ritas, Philadelphia, Tshilidzini, and Mokopane, among others. For the specialty nurse posts, graded as PN-B1 Grade 1 and Grade 2, candidates must hold a basic R425 diploma or degree in nursing, a post-basic qualification in a recognised specialty area such as operational theatre, critical care adult ICU, child nursing, trauma, advanced midwifery and neonatal nursing science, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, or renal nursing, and current registration with the South African Nursing Council. The post-basic qualification must be accredited by the SANC and be at least one year in duration, except in the case of neonatal ICU nursing. Grade 1 requires at least four years of appropriate nursing experience after registration, while Grade 2 requires fourteen years of experience, including ten years in the relevant specialty after obtaining the post-basic qualification. The midwifery sessional posts, graded Grade 1 to Grade 3, are similarly based at numerous hospitals in the Vhembe, Waterberg, Capricorn, and Mopani districts, and are open to professional nurses with midwifery qualifications. All successful appointees will be expected to provide direction and supervision in implementing nursing care plans, deliver quality patient care in line with professional standards and legislation, collaborate within multidisciplinary teams, and use human and material resources efficiently. The role demands strong communication, report writing, facilitation, liaison, networking, problem-solving, information management, and computer literacy skills. Appointees must be willing to work shifts, flexi-hours, weekends, public holidays, and overtime as required. Sessional remuneration is determined according to the DPSA-approved sessional rates, based on the candidate’s years of appropriate experience after registration with the SANC. These posts are part of a professional nurses database for sessional work, meaning appointments are made on an as-needed basis within the weekly session limit. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced specialist and midwifery nurses seeking flexible, sessional employment within the provincial health system.
