This sessional appointment offers qualified professional nurses with a recognised specialty the opportunity to provide high-quality nursing care in public hospitals across Limpopo. The post is graded at PN-B1 and is available at both Grade 1 and Grade 2 levels, with appointments made on a sessional basis of up to twenty one-hour sessions per week per nurse. Successful candidates will be placed at one of the hospitals listed under the Capricorn, Mopani, Sekhukhune, Vhembe, or Waterberg districts, including Pietersburg, Mankweng, Letaba, St Ritas, Philadelphia, Tshilidzini, and Mokopane hospitals. The specialty disciplines in demand are operational theatre nursing, adult critical care (ICU), child nursing (paediatrics), child critical care nursing, trauma nursing, advanced midwifery and neonatal nursing science, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, renal nursing, and paediatric/child nursing.

Applicants must hold a basic R425 qualification in nursing, such as a diploma or degree that permits registration with the South African Nursing Council as a professional nurse. A post-basic nursing qualification in one of the listed specialty areas is also required, with a minimum duration of one year and accreditation by the SANC in the relevant specialty, except for neonatal ICU nursing. Current registration with the SANC as a professional nurse in the appropriate specialty is essential. For appointment at Grade 1, a minimum of four years of appropriate nursing experience after registration in general nursing is needed. Grade 2 requires a minimum of fourteen years of nursing experience after registration, of which ten years must be in the relevant specialty after obtaining the post-basic qualification. Remuneration is sessional and will be based on the nurse's appropriate and recognisable experience after SANC registration, as determined by the sessional rates approved by the Department of Public Service and Administration.

The core duties include providing direction and supervision for the implementation of nursing care plans, ensuring quality patient care, and practising nursing in accordance with professional standards, quality indicators, legislation, and regulations. Nurses will work collaboratively within multidisciplinary clinical teams and are expected to utilise human, material, and physical resources efficiently and effectively. The role demands sound knowledge of nursing care processes in the relevant specialty, as well as good communication, report writing, facilitation, liaison, networking, and problem-solving skills. Information management skills and computer literacy are also required. Candidates must be willing to work shifts, flexi-hours, weekends, public holidays, and overtime when necessary. These sessional posts form part of a professional nurses database for sessional appointments, and applicants should consult the full advertisement for the specific hospital and specialty application links.
