This sessional appointment is for experienced professional nurses who hold a specialty qualification and wish to work on an hourly basis at selected public hospitals in Limpopo. The posts are graded as Professional Nurse Specialty PN-B1 Grade 1 or Grade 2, and the work is structured in sessions of one hour each, with a maximum of twenty sessions per week. Positions are available at Pietersburg and Mankweng hospitals in Capricorn District, Letaba Hospital in Mopani, St Ritas and Philadelphia hospitals in Sekhukhune, Tshilidzini Hospital in Vhembe, and Mokopane Hospital in Waterberg. Specialty disciplines include operational theatre nursing, adult critical care, paediatric nursing, child critical care, trauma nursing, advanced midwifery and neonatal nursing science, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, and renal nursing.

To be considered, candidates must hold a basic R425 qualification in nursing, such as a diploma or degree, that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse. In addition, a post-basic nursing qualification in one of the listed specialty areas is required, with a minimum duration of one year and accredited by the SANC, except in the case of neonatal ICU nursing. Current registration with the SANC in the appropriate specialty is essential. For appointment at Grade 1, a minimum of four years of appropriate nursing experience after registration is required. For Grade 2, candidates need at least fourteen years of nursing experience, of which ten years must be in the relevant specialty after obtaining the post-basic qualification. The role demands strong clinical knowledge and skills in the specific specialty, as well as good communication, report writing, facilitation, liaison, networking, problem-solving, information management, and computer literacy.

The key performance areas include providing direction and supervision for the implementation of nursing care plans, ensuring quality patient care, practising nursing in line with relevant legislation and standards, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary clinical team, and using human, material and physical resources efficiently. Sessional nurses must be willing to work shifts, flexi-hours, weekends, public holidays, and overtime when required. Remuneration is based on sessional rates approved by the Department of Public Service and Administration, determined by recognisable experience after registration with the SANC. The advertisement also includes a separate set of sessional appointments for Professional Nurses with Midwifery at Grades 1 to 3, available at numerous hospitals across Vhembe, Waterberg, Capricorn, and Mopani districts, with similar sessional conditions. Applicants for the specialty posts will be considered for placement on a professional nurses database for sessional appointments, which is used to fill temporary or part-time needs at the participating hospitals.
