PROFESSIONAL NURSE SPECIALITY [PN-B1] GRADE 1 – 2

This vacancy is for a Professional Nurse Specialty, graded at PN-B1 and open to appointment at either Grade 1 or Grade 2 level, within the Limpopo Department of Health. It is an OSD-graded nursing post, meaning it follows the Occupation Specific Dispensation remuneration and career progression structure for public sector health professionals. The successful candidate will work as a specialist professional nurse, applying advanced clinical knowledge in one of the recognised specialty nursing areas, and will be expected to function both as a hands-on clinician and as a supervisor within the facility's nursing team.

To be considered, applicants must hold the basic R425 qualification — a diploma or degree in nursing, or an equivalent qualification that permits registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a professional nurse. In addition, candidates need a post-basic nursing qualification in a relevant specialty, accredited by the SANC and lasting at least one year, except in the case of Neonatal ICU nursing where the post-basic specialty requirement is waived. Current registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse in the appropriate specialty is also essential, again with the exception of Neonatal ICU. Experience requirements differ by grade. For Grade 1, a minimum of four years of appropriate or recognisable nursing experience after registration as a Professional Nurse in General Nursing is required. For Grade 2, candidates need at least fourteen years of such experience, of which ten years must be in the specific specialty after obtaining the one-year post-basic qualification in that specialty.

The core duties revolve around directing and supervising the implementation of the nursing plan, with a strong focus on clinical practice and quality patient care. The nurse will practise nursing and health care in line with professional standards, quality indicators, and the laws and regulations governing nursing and health care in South Africa. Working closely with the multi-disciplinary clinical team is central to the role, as is the efficient and effective utilisation of human, material, and physical resources. This means the post holder must be able to plan, organise, and delegate while maintaining accountability for patient outcomes.

The ideal candidate will have sound knowledge and skill in nursing care processes and procedures within the relevant specialty area. Strong communication, report writing, facilitation, liaison, networking, and problem-solving abilities are required, along with information management skills and computer literacy.
