Competencies (knowledge/skills)
Good interpersonal, planning, and organisational skills. Computer literacy in MS Office and Outlook. Knowledge of the Mental Health Care Act, Child Care Act, Nursing Act and other relevant legislation.
Minimum educational qualification
Basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification (R683 plus R880) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
Registration with a professional council
Registration with the SANC as Professional Nurse. Proof of annual registration with SANC.

Provision of optimal, holistic nursing care to mental users with set standards within a professional/legal framework. Effective utilization of resources. Maintain professional growth/ethical standards and self-development. Provision of Support to Nursing Services. Participation in training and research.
Experience
Grade 1: None. Grade 2: A minimum of 10 years’ appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. Grade 3: A minimum of 20 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing
Inherent requirements of the job
Willingness to perform shift work, rotation in night duty and over weekends/public holidays. Willingness to work in all departments/wards according to the operational needs of the hospital.
