Requirements
· A bachelor’s degree / advanced diploma in Engineering or equivalent (NQF level 7).· A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the design and manufacturing of electronics.· A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the conceptualisation, deployment and commissioning of scientific equipment.· A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in research support.· A minimum of one (1) year experience in supporting undergraduate and postgraduate projects.KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:· Excellent problem-solving skills.· Adequate computer skills.· Demonstrate language proficiency to function optimally in the multilingual environment of the NWU.· Knowledge of the higher education landscape.BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES · Sound interpersonal relationship skills.· Excellent communication skills.· Team-oriented and reliable.· Willing to take on administrative and leadership duties. Duties
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION To provide technical research support in the Centre for Space Research (CSR). KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Research and Innovation· Maintenance of current scientific experiments including optical and radio telescopes and particle detectors· Assist with data quality control of existing experiments· Liaise with and provide support to national and international research partners· Assist with the conceptualizing of new research experiments and provide technical support· Deploy and commission new scientific experiments· Design, manufacture, and test electronics components for research and commercialization purposes· Support engaged research in the faculty.2. Teaching and Learning· Assist with undergraduate practical work.· Assist with post-graduate research activities.· Manage and partake in student communication and support activities.3. Community EngagementParticipate in community engagement projects
