This position is for a Physiotherapist at Bongani Regional Hospital, a facility under the Free State Department of Education, and is graded according to the Occupation Specific Dispensation (OSD) for health professionals. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team providing physiotherapy services to both in-patients and out-patients, as well as external stakeholders, ensuring all care is delivered within the legal scope of practice. The role is not limited to clinical work; it also involves contributing to the administrative functioning of the department, participating in quality assurance initiatives, and supporting evidence-based programmes. A key part of the job is the clinical supervision of physiotherapy students, which requires a commitment to teaching and professional development. The post also demands flexibility, as the incumbent must be willing to rotate across various physiotherapy-related areas and perform overtime duties over weekends when required.
Applicants must hold a Grade 12 certificate and a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy, or an equivalent qualification that permits registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a physiotherapist. The appointment level depends on post-registration experience: Grade 1 requires no experience after HPCSA registration; Grade 2 requires a minimum of ten years of relevant professional experience; and Grade 3 requires twenty years of experience after registration, with the reference period being the 2026/2027 cycle. Essential skills include sound interpersonal and communication abilities, the capacity to work effectively under pressure, and the ability to function well within a multidisciplinary environment. Computer literacy is considered an added advantage. The duties also encompass assisting with departmental administrative activities, contributing positively to the growth and development of the physiotherapy department, and actively participating in professional departmental programmes.
The department intends to promote representativity through this vacancy, with preference given to candidates from designated groups, particularly people with disabilities, women, and youth. Shortlisted candidates will undergo personnel suitability checks, including verification of criminal records, citizenship, financial records, and qualifications, and may be required to consent to access to their social media accounts. Applicants are not required to submit copies of qualifications at the application stage; only shortlisted candidates need to provide certified documents. Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), and non-RSA residents must submit proof of permanent residence if shortlisted. It is important to note that individuals who terminated their service through voluntary severance packages are not eligible to apply. All new appointments in the public service, as of July 2006, must be part of the Government Employee Medical Scheme (GEMS) to qualify for a government medical subsidy. The department reserves the right not to fill the post, and candidates should be available for selection interviews on a date determined by the department. If no notification of appointment is received within four months of the closing date, applicants should assume their application was unsuccessful. This is an OSD-graded position, and salary progression is subject to performance assessment.
