This position is for a Pharmacy Supervisor Grade 1, with two posts available within the Metro Health Services directorate of the provincial health department. The successful candidates will be based at the Elsies River Community Health Centre and the Kraaifontein Community Health Centre respectively. As a supervisor, the role is to provide leadership and direction for the pharmacy unit at each facility, ensuring that pharmaceutical services are value-driven, patient-centred, and aligned with national and provincial health policies. The incumbent will act as a key link between pharmacy staff and broader facility management, taking responsibility for the quality, safety, and accessibility of pharmaceutical care delivered to the community.

Applicants must hold a basic qualification in pharmacy that is accredited by the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) and allows registration as a Pharmacist. Current registration with the SAPC as a Pharmacist is essential, along with at least three years of appropriate professional experience gained after registration. Inherent requirements include possession of a valid Code B/EB driver's licence, as well as a willingness to be registered as both the Responsible Pharmacist and a tutor with the SAPC upon appointment. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of national and provincial health policies, pharmaceutical acts and laws, and the ability to work accurately under pressure while maintaining high professional standards. Strong management, communication, conflict-handling, and computer literacy skills are also required.

The duties of the post are broad and demanding. The supervisor will take leadership in establishing a value-driven pharmacy service, implementing policies and guidelines in keeping with Batho Pele principles, SAPC regulations, the National Drug Policy, and national and provincial treatment guidelines. They must ensure adherence to minimum standards for dispensing, as well as ensuring that medication and pharmaceutical care remain accessible to patients. The role also involves managing, assessing, and monitoring compliance with Good Pharmacy Practice, Ideal Clinic, and National Core Standards. Financial management is another key responsibility, including the effective monitoring of pharmaceutical expenditure and the implementation and evaluation of budgetary control measures. In addition, the supervisor will handle human resource management tasks, which include tutoring pharmacist's assistants and supporting the ongoing development of pharmacy staff.

Candidates should note that no payment of any kind is required when applying for this post. Shortlisted applicants will be subjected to a written or practical assessment as well as an oral assessment. These posts offer an opportunity for an experienced pharmacist to take on a supervisory role within a community health setting, contributing to the delivery of quality pharmaceutical services in the Western Cape.
