The Government Printing Works (GPW) is offering a 24-month graduate internship opportunity within its Performance Management and Development System unit, based in Pretoria. This internship forms part of the department's broader Graduate Programme for the 2027/2029 financial year and is designed to give qualifying unemployed graduates meaningful workplace exposure and practical training in their chosen field. The successful candidate will be placed within the Human Resources Development environment, where they will gain hands-on experience in performance management and development practices as applied in the public service. The programme is structured to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application, with interns expected to become actively involved in the day-to-day operations of the unit.

To be considered for this internship, applicants must hold a National Diploma or Degree in Human Resource Development, Management of Training, or Human Resources Management. In addition, applicants must be South African citizens and must be unemployed at the time of application. A critical requirement is that applicants should not have previously participated in an internship programme; any failure to disclose prior participation will result in the immediate termination of the internship contract on the grounds of dishonesty or undue enrichment. This emphasises the department’s commitment to fair and transparent recruitment practices and to ensuring that the opportunity is extended to those who have not yet benefited from similar programmes.

The core duties of the intern will revolve around structured work exposure and training that is directly relevant to the placement area. The intern will be expected to participate actively in workplace activities, contribute to departmental projects, and engage in capacity-building initiatives under the supervision of experienced professionals. This may involve supporting the administration of performance management processes, assisting with the development and implementation of training interventions, and participating in initiatives aimed at improving employee performance and organisational effectiveness. The experience gained is intended to equip the intern with a solid foundation for a future career in human resource development, particularly within the public sector.

Applicants must adhere strictly to the application instructions. A fully completed and signed new Z83 application form must be submitted for each post, with the correct job title and reference number indicated in the subject line of the email. Only shortlisted candidates will be required to submit certified copies of their qualifications and other relevant documents, which must be certified in line with the advertisement’s requirements. Candidates with foreign qualifications must have these evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). Applications sent via fax will not be accepted, and late or incomplete applications will be disqualified. Shortlisted candidates must be available for interviews and will be subject to personnel suitability checks as part of the selection process. Successful candidates will be required to enter into an employment contract and performance agreement. By responding to the advertisement, applicants consent to the collection, processing, and storage of their personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). The Government Printing Works reserves the right not to fill the post, and applicants who do not receive a response within three months of the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful. This internship offers a valuable opportunity for graduates to build professional competencies within a government setting while contributing to the effective management of performance and development systems.
