The Government Printing Works (GPW) is offering a graduate internship opportunity in the Paper Stores Central unit, based in Pretoria. This is one post within the broader Graduate Programme for the 2027/2029 financial year, designed to give unemployed graduates meaningful workplace experience. The intern placed in this role will work within the central paper stores environment, where the focus is on supply chain and logistics functions that support the organisation’s printing and document production operations. As a trainee, the successful candidate will be exposed to the practical realities of managing materials, stock control, and the movement of paper supplies, while being mentored by experienced professionals.

Applicants must hold a National Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain Management or Logistics Management. This qualification is essential, as the internship is intended to align structured work exposure with the intern’s field of study. In addition to the academic requirement, candidates must be South African citizens, must be currently unemployed, and must not have previously participated in any internship programme. Applicants who fail to disclose prior participation risk immediate termination of the internship contract on grounds of dishonesty or undue enrichment. The internship itself runs for 24 months, providing a substantial period of supervised training and capacity building.

The core duties of the role revolve around active participation in workplace activities, projects, and training initiatives under the guidance of senior staff. The intern will be expected to apply their academic knowledge to real-world supply chain and logistics tasks, gaining hands-on experience in the central paper stores function. This includes learning how to manage stock, coordinate deliveries, maintain records, and support the broader operational goals of the GPW. The programme is structured to ensure that the intern develops practical competencies that will enhance their future employability in the public or private sector.

Several administrative and procedural conditions apply. Applications must be submitted on the new Z83 form, which is available from public service departments or online, and the correct job title and reference number must appear in the subject line of the email. No applications will be accepted via fax, and documents such as pictures, snapshots, zipped files, IMG or JPEG attachments will be rejected. Each post requires its own fully completed, initiated, and signed application form. Only shortlisted candidates will be asked to submit certified copies of their qualifications and other relevant documents on or before the interview date. Candidates with foreign qualifications must have them evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority. The selection process may include personnel suitability checks, and successful candidates will be required to sign an employment contract and performance agreement. By applying, candidates consent to the collection, processing, and storage of their personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, and the information will be used solely for the recruitment process. Correspondence is limited to shortlisted applicants, and those who do not receive a response within three months of the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful. The GPW reserves the right to fill or not fill the advertised post.
