This is a 24-month graduate internship placement within the Government Printing Works in Pretoria, specifically focused on organisational development and change management. The role forms part of the broader Graduate Programme aimed at the 2027/2029 financial year, giving unemployed South African graduates the chance to gain structured, hands-on work experience in a public sector environment. The internship is designed to bridge the gap between academic study and the professional workplace, and the successful candidate will be placed in a unit where they can apply their knowledge to real organisational processes, while receiving mentorship and supervision from experienced practitioners.
To be considered, applicants must hold a National Diploma or Degree in Work-study, Operations Management, Management Services, Production Management, or Industrial Psychology. These fields are directly relevant to the work of the organisational development and change management function, which focuses on improving workplace efficiency, reviewing operational methods, supporting production management, and applying industrial psychology principles to manage change effectively. Applicants must be unemployed, South African citizens, and must not have previously participated in any internship programme. It is important to disclose any prior internship participation upfront, as failing to do so will lead to immediate termination of the contract on the grounds of dishonesty or undue enrichment.
The main duties involve active participation in workplace activities, assigned projects, and capacity-building initiatives under supervision. The intern will receive structured exposure and training aligned with their field of study, learning how to conduct work studies, analyse management services, contribute to operations and production management processes, and support change management interventions. This is not a passive observation role; the intern is expected to engage meaningfully with the team, complete assigned tasks, and take part in continuous development opportunities throughout the 24-month period.
Other important conditions include the requirement to submit applications using the prescribed application form, with the correct job title and reference number indicated. Only shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide certified copies of qualifications and relevant documents, and those with foreign qualifications must have them evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority. Shortlisted candidates must be available for interviews, and personnel suitability checks will be conducted as part of the selection process. Successful candidates will be required to sign an employment contract and a performance agreement. By applying, candidates consent to the collection and processing of their personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act. The Government Printing Works reserves the right not to fill the post, and applicants who do not receive feedback within three months of the closing date should consider their applications unsuccessful. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates seeking to launch their careers in the public service while building practical competencies in organisational development and change management.
