This position offers an opportunity to join the administrative support team at Groote Schuur Hospital in Observatory, working within the hospital’s reprographics environment. As an Operator in Reprographics, you would be responsible for ensuring that the entire hospital receives an effective and efficient printing service. This is a hands-on role that sits at the heart of hospital operations, supporting clinical and administrative departments by producing, finishing, and delivering printed material in a timely and professional manner. The role also involves close collaboration with both external and internal clients, making client care and interpersonal skills essential to success.
To be considered for this post, you must have a General Education and Training Certificate (GETC) or Grade 9 (Std. 7) as a minimum educational qualification. In addition, you need appropriate printing experience, which means a practical background in operating reprographic or printing equipment. The role demands solid planning and organisational abilities, as you will need to manage multiple printing requests and meet deadlines across a busy hospital environment. Good communication skills are also required, along with the ability to compile and report on statistics. Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook is a key requirement, as you will use these tools to track workloads and generate reports. You should also be willing to undergo development courses to keep your skills current and grow within the role.
Your main duties will include delivering printing services for the whole hospital, ensuring that all printing requests are finished off correctly and to a high standard. You will be responsible for the effective organisation of the office, liaising with clients both inside and outside the hospital, and ensuring that statistical data is submitted on time. You will also collate and compile a monthly report, which feeds into the broader monitoring of the unit’s performance. The role involves relief duties when necessary, including covering the Photocopy Centre and delivering urgent printing requests to remote departments. You may also be asked to assist the Medico-Legal department with urgent copies, which highlights the importance of reliability and discretion in this position. Finally, you will provide assistance to the Supervisor and the Head of Department, supporting the smooth running of the service.
This is an OSD-graded post within the Western Cape Government health sector, based at a major teaching hospital. The position offers the chance to contribute directly to patient care by ensuring that essential documents and medical-legal materials are produced accurately and quickly. Applicants should note that no payment of any kind is required when applying for this post, and the selection process will be guided by the department’s employment equity targets and special conditions. If you have a strong service ethic, enjoy variety, and can work under pressure in a structured environment, this role provides a meaningful way to support hospital operations.
