Remuneration

Experience
A minimum of 9 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing. At least 5 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/recognisable experience in the specific speciality (Psychiatry) after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification or a post-graduate diploma in the relevant specialty.
Minimum educational qualification
Basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification (R683 plus R880) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse. A post-basic nursing qualification with a duration of at least 1 year accredited with the SANC in Advanced Psychiatric Nursing Science (R212). OR A 4 year Bachelor Degree in Nursing (R174) or equivalent qualification (R171 plus R1497) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse. A post graduate diploma (R635) accredited with the SANC in Mental Health Nursing.

Duties (key result areas/outputs)
Plan, lead, organise, coordinate and control the provision of holistic and specialised nursing services. Effectively manage all resources within the prescripts of People Management, Finance and other relevant directives. Ensure the delivery of quality nursing care within set standards of a professional and legal framework. Coordinate the provision of, and active participation in, effective training and research to maintain and ensure achievement of CPD, self-development, professional growth and ethical standards. Provide active support to Nursing- and Hospital Leadership in leading the change process.
Inherent requirements of the job
Ability and willingness to assist with shifts, on call and relief night matron for and after-hours hospital cover including weekends, public holidays, night duty relief and overtime as the need arises.
Competencies (knowledge/skills)
Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies of the Department of Health Western Cape. Ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal). Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook). Skills to plan, organise and coordinate the service by analysing, problem solving and decision making. Leadership towards the realisation of strategic goals and objectives of the Psychiatric Department. Ability to function independently, as well as in a multi-disciplinary team to ensure good patient care.
