POST : OPERATIONAL MANAGER NURSING SPECIALITY (TRAUMA AND EMERGENCY NURSING) CENTRE : ST MARY’S DISTRICT HOSPITAL MARIANNHILL SECTION : OPD/ POPD/ TRAUMA/ RESUS NO OF POSTS : 01 REFERENCE NO : SMMH 01/NURS/2026 SALARY : R720 819.00 – R821 454.00 per annum BENEFITS : 13th Cheque Medical aid and housing allowance (optional and provided incumbent Meets the requirements) MINIMUM APPOINTMENT REQUIREMENTS: - Grade 12 (senior certificate) or equivalent - Basic R425 qualification (i.e. Diploma/Degree in General Nursing Science and Midwifery) that allows Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse. - A post basic nursing qualification in Trauma and Emergency Nursing Science / Orthopaedics Speciality with duration of at least 1 year accredited with the SANC. - A minimum of 9 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing. - At least 5 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/recognizable nursing experience in the speciality after obtaining the one year post basic qualification in the relevant speciality. - Proof of current registration with SANC (2026) - Proof of current and previous experience endorsed by Human Resources - All successful candidates will have to spend a minimum of one (01) year in service OTHER REQUIREMENTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: - Computer Literacy - Valid Driver’s Licence KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS - Knowledge of South African Nursing Council (SANC) rules and regulations. - Decision making and problem solving skills. - Conflict management and negotiation skills. - Demonstrate effective communication with patients, supervisors, other health professionals and junior colleagues including more complex report writing when required. - Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team at unit level to ensure good nursing care by nursing team. - Leadership, organizational, decision making and problem solving skills. - Report writing skills and time management skills, good communication, interpersonal relations, counselling and conflict management skills. - Ability to formulate patient care related policies. - Knowledge of Public Service Policies, Acts and Regulations. ASIBE HEALTHY KZN KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS • To plan, organise and monitor the objectives of the specialised unit. • Manage and co-ordinate the implementation of holistic, comprehensive, specialised nursing care in conjunction with team members, within a professional and legal framework. • Supervision and monitoring of provision of quality nursing care through the implementation of National Core Standards and Procedures. • Ensure adequate supervision of staff and provision of quality patient care in an efficient and cost effective manner. • Maintain effectively the utilisation and supervision of resources. • Supervise implementation of health care delivery policies, procedures, clinical guidelines, protocols, operational and strategic plans aimed at improving service delivery. • Monitor and evaluate the care and management of all patients and ensure the keeping of accurate and complete patient records according to legal requirements. • Participate in Quality Improvement Programs and Clinical Audits. • Demonstrate a concern for patients, promoting and advocating proper treatment and care. • Monitor and evaluate staff performance. • Ensure effective data management. • Ensure ethics and professionalism is maintained. • Demonstrate effective communication with staff, patients and multidisciplinary team. • Exercise control over discipline, grievances on all labour related issues according to laid down policies and procedures. • Develop/establish and maintain constructive working relationship with nursing and other stakeholders.
