    This vacancy is for an Operational Manager Nursing at Primary Health Care level, based at Nogajuka Clinic under Kwa-Magwaza District Hospital. The role is a Grade 1 post within the nursing OSD structure and carries full management responsibility for nursing services at the clinic. The successful candidate will lead a team delivering a comprehensive package of primary health care services, ensuring that the clinic meets the standards set by the National Health Act, the Office of Health Standards Compliance, and the Ideal Clinic Realisation Model. The position requires a blend of clinical expertise, leadership, and administrative capability, with a strong focus on quality improvement, resource management, and the re-engineering of PHC services towards Universal Health Coverage.

    To be considered, applicants must hold a Grade 12 or Senior Certificate, a basic R425 qualification in General Nursing and Midwifery, and a one-year post-basic qualification in Clinic Nursing Science Health Assessment, Treatment and Care. Current registration with the South African Nursing Council as a General Nurse, Midwife or Accoucheur, and Primary Health Care nurse is essential. Candidates need at least nine years of appropriate nursing experience after registration as a Professional Nurse, of which five years must be in PHC after obtaining the post-basic qualification. In-depth knowledge of nursing legislation, ethical practice, public service policies, and health prescripts is required, along with skills in leadership, organising, decision-making, problem-solving, computer literacy, time and conflict management, report writing, communication, and human resource and financial management.

    The duties are broad and include providing and overseeing a comprehensive package of PHC services, developing and monitoring facility plans, and submitting progress reports. The operational manager will implement quality improvement programmes, drive the PHC re-engineering strategy, and manage resources effectively within cost containment plans. Other responsibilities include implementing the Employee Performance Management and Development System, using data to improve service delivery and health outcomes, managing departmental and special projects aligned with the health calendar, and conducting clinical audits of priority programmes.
