The Civilian Secretariat for Police Service invites unemployed South African graduates to apply for two internship positions within the Office of the Secretary, based in Pretoria. These posts form part of the department’s 2026/2028 Internship Programme, which offers a structured 24-month, non-renewable contract aimed at developing young professionals in the field of public administration. The Office of the Secretary serves as the central administrative and coordination hub of the Secretariat, and interns placed there will be exposed to the inner workings of a public service department, supporting the office’s day-to-day operations and contributing to the effective functioning of the Secretariat’s broader mandate.

To be eligible, applicants must possess a completed National Diploma or a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from an accredited institution of higher learning. Candidates must be unemployed South African graduates and must not have previously participated in an internship programme within the Public Service. This requirement ensures that the opportunity is directed at those who have not yet had the chance to gain government work experience. The selection process will give preference to candidates whose appointment promotes representativity in terms of race, gender and disability, in line with the department’s equity targets.

The main duties of the interns will be determined by the needs of the Office of the Secretary, but will generally include providing administrative support, assisting with the coordination of office activities, handling correspondence, and participating in the execution of secretariat functions. Interns will gain hands-on experience in public administration, policy coordination, and the operational environment of a government department, while working under the supervision of senior officials. The programme is designed to equip graduates with practical skills and workplace exposure that will enhance their future employability.

Applicants are required to submit a fully completed Z83 application form, obtainable from any Public Service Department or the Public Service and Administration website, along with a detailed Curriculum Vitae that clearly indicates positions held, dates, and key performance areas. Copies of qualifications and other documents should not be submitted at the application stage; only shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide certified copies on or before the day of the interview. Failure to submit the required documents or information will result in disqualification. Correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates, and applicants who do not receive feedback within one month after the closing date should accept that their application was unsuccessful. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates seeking to launch their careers in the public sector.
