This is an exciting opportunity for dedicated and compassionate health professionals to join the North West Provincial Department of Social Development as a Nursing Assistant, with five positions available across two care facilities in the Bojanala and Dr Kenneth Kaunda districts. Successful applicants will be placed either at Sonop Old Age Home in Bojanala, which has three posts, or at JB Marks Treatment Centre in Dr Kenneth Kaunda, which has two posts. The positions fall under the Chief Directorate for Districts and Institutional Support Management, within the Directorate for Bojanala and Dr Kenneth Kaunda Districts, and are graded according to the Occupational Specific Dispensation (OSD) for nursing. This is a vital frontline role aimed at providing elementary clinical care to vulnerable populations, particularly the elderly and people with disabilities, within a government residential care setting.

To be considered, applicants must hold a Grade 12 Certificate as well as a Higher Certificate at NQF Level 5 in Auxiliary Nursing, or another qualification that permits registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC). In addition, candidates must have appropriate and recognisable nursing experience gained after their registration with the SANC as a Nursing Assistant. Current registration with the SANC is a strict requirement, along with a demonstrated understanding of nursing legislation, legal and ethical nursing practice, and the ability to implement elementary functions according to the defined scope of practice. These requirements ensure that appointees are not only technically equipped but also legally compliant and ethically grounded in their work.

The core responsibilities of the role involve performing elementary clinical nursing practice in accordance with the scope of practice and nursing standards set by the relevant health facility. This includes promoting the quality of elementary nursing care as directed by the professional scope and facility standards. Effective communication is another key duty, both with patients and with supervisors, to ensure that care is well-coordinated and responsive. Nursing Assistants will also work as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with other health and social care professionals to ensure holistic, quality nursing care for residents.
