NETWORK CONTROLLER (X2 POSTS)

This is an exciting opportunity for two qualified and motivated individuals to join the Department of Correctional Services as Network Controllers within the Infrastructure and Telephony directorate at the National Head Office. The role is essential for maintaining a stable, secure and efficient ICT environment that supports the department’s day-to-day operations. As a Network Controller, you will be responsible for a wide range of technical tasks, from providing desktop and server support to ensuring that local and wide area networks, telephony systems and video conferencing facilities operate without interruption. You will also play a key role in managing transversal systems such as BAS, LOGIS and PERSAL, which are critical for financial, logistical and personnel administration within the public service.

To be considered for this position, applicants must possess a National Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems or Computer Engineering at NQF level 6, recognised by SAQA. While not mandatory, additional certifications such as A+, N+ and Security+ will be a distinct advantage. Practical experience of one to two years in an IT and network environment is required, along with a valid driver’s licence. The successful candidate will also need to demonstrate a solid understanding of MS Windows 11, Office 365 and the broader Microsoft Office suite. Strong problem-solving abilities, planning and organising skills, and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team are essential. Good communication and interpersonal skills, IT literacy, accurate record keeping, typing proficiency, information gathering and a focus on improving efficiency are all important attributes for this role.

In this role, your daily responsibilities will include installing, configuring and maintaining computer hardware, software and peripherals, as well as identifying and repairing faults on LAN/WAN infrastructure, network points and related systems. You will be expected to monitor and connect IP telephony and video conferencing equipment, ensuring seamless communication across the department. Additionally, you will assist with the management of resources and the collection and reporting of performance information, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the ICT unit. The position is graded under the OSD framework and offers a competitive salary within the public service scale.
