This large-scale recruitment drive seeks qualified medical practitioners to fill 227 Medical Officer posts on a shift system within the Limpopo Department of Health. The positions are distributed across a wide network of hospitals throughout the province, ranging from larger facilities such as Pietersburg, Mankweng, and Tshilidzini to smaller district hospitals like Evuxakeni, Hayani, and Witpoort. The posts are structured across three grades, allowing for career progression based on years of experience, and the all-inclusive remuneration package includes a rural allowance for those serving in identified nodes.

To be considered, applicants must hold a qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as an Independent Medical Practitioner, and must currently be registered with the HPCSA. Experience requirements vary by grade: Grade 1 candidates need less than five years of post-registration experience, Grade 2 candidates need a minimum of five years, and Grade 3 candidates need at least ten years. Applicants must be South African citizens or permanent residents. The role demands a willingness to work shifts, including night duty, weekends, and public holidays, as well as the ability to perform overtime when operational needs arise. Computer literacy in MS Office applications and virtual meeting platforms is essential, and a valid driver's licence is required except for candidates with disabilities. A skill declaration form must also be submitted.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide comprehensive clinical care, including emergency care, across designated clinical areas. Duties include performing ward rounds, participating in outreach programmes, and delivering medical services at special events and operations. The role requires responding to emergency calls within stipulated timeframes, including during disasters. Practitioners must maintain best clinical practice in line with quality standards, keep up to date through Continuing Professional Development, and generate accurate medical records. Participation in the department's Quality Improvement Programme, conducting clinical audits, and ensuring compliance with clinical protocols are all core responsibilities. The position also involves participating in continuing medical education and academic activities, and where required, supervising, instructing, and training junior medical officers and registrars. Practitioners may be deployed to any area within the province and must be prepared to perform additional duties allocated by their supervisor.

Candidates should possess sound clinical knowledge across general medicine, surgery, and anaesthetics for all age groups, along with a strong understanding of the legal aspects of medical practice in South Africa. Leadership, communication, presentation, and budgeting skills are important, as is the ability to collect and analyse data. A commitment to sound medical ethics, clinical governance, and the rational use of resources is essential, as is the capacity to work independently after hours without supervision. Commuted overtime is approved by the Accounting Officer based on operational requirements. These posts offer a significant opportunity for medical professionals to contribute to public healthcare delivery across Limpopo's hospitals.
