The successful candidate will be expected to provide clinical care, including emergency care, in designated clinical areas, conduct ward rounds, support outreach programmes, and render medical services at special events and operations across the province. They must respond to emergency calls within stipulated timeframes, including during disasters, and maintain best clinical practice in line with quality standards. Ongoing professional development through the HPCSA’s CPD system is essential, as is generating and maintaining accurate medical records. The role also involves supervising, instructing, and training medical officers and registrars where required, participating in academic activities at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and performing any other duties allocated by a supervisor, without provincial boundary restrictions.

Candidates should possess sound clinical knowledge across general medicine, surgery, and anaesthetics for all age groups and sexes, along with a strong understanding of South African medical law and ethics. Leadership, communication, presentation, budgeting, and data collection skills are important, as is the ability to work independently after hours without supervision.
