This advertisement covers a large-scale recruitment drive for Medical Officer posts, with 227 positions available across a wide network of hospitals in the province. The roles are divided into three professional grades based on post-registration experience, and successful candidates will be placed at one of the many designated centres, ranging from larger hospitals such as Pietersburg, Mankweng and Tshilidzini to smaller facilities like Evuxakeni, Hayani and Witpoort. The positions are part of the provincial health department's effort to strengthen clinical services, and the work involves shift-based and flexi-hour duties, including night duty, weekend work and public holiday coverage, as well as commuted overtime as approved by the Accounting Officer based on operational needs.

To be considered, applicants must hold an appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Independent Medical Practitioner, and must currently be registered with the HPCSA in that capacity. The experience requirement depends on the grade: Grade 1 is for those with less than five years of appropriate experience after registration, Grade 2 requires a minimum of five years, and Grade 3 requires a minimum of ten years. Candidates must be South African citizens or permanent residents. A valid driver's licence is required, except for candidates with disabilities, and computer literacy in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and virtual meeting platforms is essential. A skill declaration form must also be submitted with the application.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide comprehensive clinical care, including emergency care, in designated clinical areas, and to perform ward rounds, outreach programmes and medical services at special events or operations across the province. They must respond to emergency calls within stipulated times, including during disasters, and maintain best clinical practice in line with quality standards, including ongoing professional development through the HPCSA's CPD system. Other duties include generating and maintaining accurate clinical records, participating in the department's Quality Improvement Programme, conducting clinical audits, ensuring clinical protocols are followed, and supervising, instructing and training junior medical officers and registrars where required. The role also demands sound knowledge of medical theory and practice, legal aspects of medicine in South Africa, clinical governance, medical ethics and rational use of resources, as well as strong leadership, communication, presentation and budgeting skills, and the ability to work independently after hours.

The remuneration package is all-inclusive and graded according to experience, with an additional rural allowance for those serving in ISRDS nodes. The posts are spread across a large number of centres, so applicants should be willing to serve at any of the listed hospitals. The role requires flexibility, dedication to public service, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of care in a resource-constrained environment.
