The Limpopo Department of Health is seeking three suitably qualified nursing educators to fill Lecturer (PND-1) positions, with one post based at each of the Waterberg, Sekhukhune and Thohoyandou campuses. This is an OSD-graded academic role within the provincial nursing education environment, focused on preparing student nurses for professional practice. The successful candidates will be responsible for delivering nursing education and training, facilitating student learning, and accompanying students in clinical areas to ensure they integrate theoretical knowledge with practical patient care. The role requires close collaboration with clinical facilities and a commitment to developing competent, caring nursing professionals.

Applicants must hold a National Senior Certificate and a Basic R425 qualification in nursing, either a diploma or degree, or another equivalent qualification that permits registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse. In addition, a post-basic qualification in Nursing Education, registered with the SANC, is required, along with current registration as a Professional Nurse in Nursing Education. Appointment at Grade 1 demands a minimum of four years of appropriate and recognisable nursing experience after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. For Grade 2, candidates need at least fourteen years of such experience, of which at least ten years must be in nursing education after obtaining the one-year post-basic qualification in Nursing Education. This dual grading structure recognises both early-career educators and those with substantial teaching experience.

The ideal candidate will be computer literate, including proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as virtual meeting platforms, and must hold a valid driver's licence, except for applicants with disabilities who are exempt from this requirement. The job demands sound knowledge of nursing procedures and processes, together with strong communication, leadership, management, problem-solving, presentation and research skills. Basic financial and human resource management abilities, good interpersonal relations, integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail are equally important. The Department values individuals who are proactive, results-oriented, calm under pressure, adaptable to change, respectful and diplomatic with stakeholders, and who operate as team players while embracing continuous learning and Batho Pele principles.

In terms of responsibilities, the lecturers will provide structured education and training for student nurses, facilitate both classroom and clinical learning, and accompany students in their clinical placements to support and assess their progress. This requires regular liaison with clinical settings and a hands-on approach to teaching.

Applicants should take note of the conditions attached to the post. The application process requires completion of the new Z83 form along with a comprehensive CV, and foreign qualifications must be evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority, with proof of such evaluation submitted. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview and will need to produce certified copies of their qualifications, current registration with the relevant statutory body, and an identity document. They will also undergo pre-entry assessments, including a practical exercise and an integrity assessment, which will be scored as part of the interview process. This is a demanding but rewarding opportunity for nurse educators who wish to contribute to the future of the nursing profession within the public health sector.
