     Department of Visual Communication Design

     Lecturer (Photography)

    Minimum Requirements:

    • A Master’s degree in Photography or an appropriate associated field. However, a candidate with a PhD in Photography or an associated field would be given preference.
    • A minimum of 3 years’ teaching experience at tertiary level, OR, 3 years’ experience in industry. 

     Additional Recommendations:

    • Comprehensive photographic studio experience is a pre-requisite.
    • Be able to create updated, contemporary and innovative content at degree and/or honours level.
    • Experience in new platforms in line with the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) 
    • Be able to teach Photographic Theory and Applied Photography at degree and/or honours level.
    • A combination of analogue and digital photography.
    • Must register for doctoral study within three years of appointment.
    • Evidence of research or creative output activities (industry commissions if from industry).
    • Experience in teaching and learning technologies, including e-learning would be an advantage.
    • Experience in teaching English to second-language students.
    • Possess a working knowledge of post-production Photography software, such as Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
    • Possess a working knowledge of DSLR video/multimedia and Adobe Premier Pro.
    • Portfolio of photographic work, teaching and learning (example slides, assessments, lesson plans).

     Summary of Duties:

     The successful candidate will be expected to:

    •  Register for a PhD within three years of appointment, if not in possession of a PhD.
    • Lecture in the Photography Programme at degree and/or honours level.
    • Lecture studio photography.
    • Set and mark tests, assignments and portfolios.
    • Develop new content/curriculum for the degree and/or honours qualification(s).
    • Engage in departmental administration duties.
    • Develop materials specific for online learners.
    • Participate in individual and/or programme research projects.
    • Attend meetings prescribed by the Head of Department.
    • Participate in DUT academic life and serve on at least one committee.
    • Undertake appropriate duties as assigned by the Programme Co-ordinator/Head of Department.
    • Conduct research and publish research outputs or produce creative research outputs.
