Requirements
PhD in Genetics (or a closely aligned discipline with clear evidence of specialisation in genetics or plant/animal breeding).Relevant research experience in a sub-discipline of genetics with applications in human, animal, or plant genetics and biotechnology.Proven track record in bioinformatic analyses, statistical genetics and/or data science (as it relates to `omics and high-throughput data).A record of peer-reviewed scientific publications in the field of genetics (or aligned applied fields). A record of postgraduate supervision in genetics. The ability and willingness to, or experience with obtaining external research funding to sustain a productive research programme. Proven ability to work within a multidisciplinary research team.The ability and willingness or experience to create and maintain international research collaboration in the field of genetics (or relevant applied fields).The ability and willingness or experience in teaching, learning and assessment.The ability and willingness or experience in academic administration and managementThe ability to demonstrate and uphold Stellenbosch University's core values.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RecommendationA National Research Foundation (NRF) rating.Registration with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) as a Professional Natural Scientists (Pr.Sci.Nat.) in an appropriate field of practice (e.g. Agricultural Science or Biological Science).--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Duties
Coordinating, administering, and teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules in genetics, biotechnology and/or biometry.Supervising postgraduate students at BScHons, MSc, and PhD levels.Conducting research in one of the sub-disciplines of genetics (molecular genetics and genomics, population genetics and/or quantitative genetics) with application in one of the thematic areas of human, animal, or plant genetics and biotechnology.Publishing research in internationally recognised, peer-reviewed journals and presenting papers at national and international conferences.Collaborating and developing partnerships with relevant industries to secure third-stream research funding.Developing regional, national, and international academic and research networks.Involved in administrative service delivery at the IPBB and at departmental, Faculty, University, national, and international levels.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
